CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING FOR GAMES TEACHERS
Since 2020, Ability Sports Africa (ASA) has successfully built the capacity of 180 coaches and physical education teachers across four districts: Gulu, Nwoya, Amuru, and Omoro. ASA provided specialized training in sports for inclusion, aimed at promoting inclusive sports practices in 40 primary schools within the region.
Through this initiative, ASA introduced the concept of reverse inclusion—an approach designed to foster social inclusion. As a result of the training, over 5,000 children are now actively participating in adaptive games and sports both in schools and local communities.
ASA introduced physical literacy to teachers that looks at the development of fundamental skills of sports and knowledge of adapting different games to suit the different abilities within their coaching program.
Feedback from coaches highlights the following key benefits of the training:
- Increased confidence among participants
- Enhanced skills in promoting inclusion through sports in School
- Improved social inclusion and overall wellbeing of children with disabilities.
- Promoted inclusive learning in school
- Promoted adaptation of sports and games for children with disabilities.
This initiative has proven to be a powerful tool for creating more inclusive and supportive environments for children in the region
