We introduced Aciro Prisca (Brenda) to para games in 2018 when ASA was still in the process of formation. She was taken to the national para athletic games hosted in Mbarara District. Achiro participated in 4 races because we had very few athletes representing the Gulu community in the national event.
Through this event, she managed to win a bronze medal and two silver medals. This was a big motivation for her and marked her turning point. We assigned Achiro Prisca to a coach to help train her. In 2020, she traveled to Morocco and was classified by the World Para Olympic Committee in the T47 class to participate in the 400 and 100 meter races at a global event.
This was a big breakthrough for ASA, a small community-based organization with a big dream of empowering young athletes with disabilities to break barriers. Three athletes from Gulu were classified in the same event: Ochira Richard for wheelchair racing, Ocen Wilfred for T45, and Jonas Oryema (visual impairment) T13 for 1500m and 5000m. Prisca and Jonas Oryema were named among six athletes to participate in the World Para Athletics Championship in India from September 26 to October 5, 2025.
